Hours:                 37.5 Hours, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm

Salary:                 Up to £25k per year

PIP Chemicals Limited is a Newtownards based manufacturer of chemical cleaning and care products, for the automotive sector. We supply a wide variety of products to customers throughout UK, Ireland and Europe and occupy a premium quality position in the market. We have invested extensively in high quality operational equipment and in systems such as SAP ERP and associated Warehouse Management systems.

 

We manufacture a wide range of chemical products, including Fallout RemoversTyre and Trim DressingsWaxes and All Purpose Cleaners. We are the leading premium car care manufacturers ( UK & Ireland ) with a unique focus on car cleaning chemicals, valeting products and detailing products We supply everything from heavy duty car cleaning products, bulk car wash chemicals through to car wash detailing supplies.

 

We are seeking an enthusiastic Chemist to assist with technical exercises, across the company This is a great opportunity to gain experience in multiple areas, including quality control, formulation, product testing and method development.

 

Job Description

The role will involve:

  • Quality Control

Carrying out quality control tests on manufactured products, ensuring that products meet pre-defined specifications, carrying out investigations where not.

 

  • Product Formulation

Together with other technical staff, formulation of chemical cleaning products (routinely surfactant based) and surface protection products.

 

  • Stability Testing

Carrying out stability tests, including light fastness and thermal stability for manufactured products and new formulations.

 

  • Product Testing

Testing the performance of products, based both on lab scale trials and also real world testing on vehicles.

 

  • Method Development

Developing new test methodologies to better characterise performance of in-house formulations and also competing products.

 

  • Record Keeping

Maintain records and generate reports, according to company procedures, inputting results into the SAP ERP system.

 

  • Housekeeping

Ensuring that the laboratory area is maintained in a clean, tidy and safe state.

 

Personnel Specification

The requirements for this role are:

  • Degree in Chemistry

OR

  • At least 2 years experience working in a laboratory (for instance carrying out quality control procedures)
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Excellent Verbal and communication skills
  • Must be able to prove their right to work in the UK.
  • Knowledge of surfactant and/or sol-gel chemistry would be advantageous
