Opportunity – Product Development Lead

13 December 2020

Product Development Lead

Location:            Newtownards

Salary:                 £25-30kPA, Full time (37.5hr week)

PIP Chemicals Limited is a future focused chemical manufacturer, based in Newtownards, Northern Ireland. We manufacture a broad range of chemical cleaning and care chemicals, with a primary focus on the automotive and biocidal sectors. The company has been successfully growing in staff, turnover and capacity, showing a doubling in turnover in the last 2 years.

The success we have seen can be attributed to the ongoing efforts in development, both in core business systems and products and processes. It is in the area of product and technical development that we seek to find an enthusiastic individual who can act as a lead in the area, liaising internally and externally, to continue developing existing products and creating entirely new products, as the need arises.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to customer requests – maintaining a high level of communication, in line with our personal approach to business – to develop new and existing cleaning and care chemical mixtures.
  • Monitor relevant chemical developments, via peers and supply chain sources, to keep up to date with the best practice formulations methodologies.
  • Ensure that developed products are thoroughly tested, both for performance as well as stability.
  • Maintain comprehensive records to facilitate efficient sales support.
  • Liaise, internally, to create and follow strategic product development targets.
  • Support administrative and production staff, ensuring smooth transition of samples from laboratory to production.
  • Provide higher level support to other technical activities, where a deeper chemical and analytical knowledge is required.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for the company as part of a management group.

Suitable candidates will have extensive laboratory experience and be extremely comfortable with maintaining simple equipment and relevant records. They should have a strong chemical background and have several years experience formulating chemical products, in response to either internal or external demands.

Necessary skills/education:

  • Chemistry Degree or higher
  • A basic knowledge of surfactant chemistry
  • 3 or more years’ experience in a laboratory environment
  • 3 or more years formulating chemical products
  • Strong Record Keeping skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • English GCSE (or equivalent)
  • Existing UK permit to work

Desirable (non-essential) skills/education:

  • Experience of formulating cleaning products, particularly those based on surfactants.
  • An interest in automotive cleaning, whether from professional experience or personal interest.
  • Chemical health and safety relating to formulation hazards.

Guidance will be provided from existing staff and it is anticipated that the candidate would make this position their own within a short period of time, liaising with colleagues and managing the development section on a day-to-day basis.

This exciting role offers the right candidate the opportunity to lead the direction of the development team, liaise with a wide range of contacts and create numerous new products whilst being able to clearly see the outcome of their efforts being translated into production reality.

Interested parties should send their CV to Dr Adam Hunniford at [email protected].
